My name is Richard Quisenberry and I am the author of Unlock the Exceptional. I mentor young men that come from different backgrounds, many of whom are fatherless, confused and/or forgotten. These encounters made me realize what specific skills these promising young men need to cultivate a growth mindset, positive thinking, and the courage to face the fear of failure. I felt compelled to step up and fulfill this need.

My mission is to help young men become the real men our society needs right now. Unlock the Exceptional is at the heart of that goal.

As a young man, I was fortunate that compassionate and generous people recognized my potential and invested in me. I pay this gift forward with Unlock the Exceptional. It is a fundamental guide for the positive development of young men who are who are seeking their full potential. My hope is that the flame I nurture in these young men becomes the torch that will be passed to future generations of leaders.

My goal with this book is to provide guardians, parents, and mentors of every kind the principles and tools to help them have meaningful conversations with their child. Conversations that leave them feeling valued, respected, and safe enough to share their real thoughts and emotions openly.

With this book I intend to inspire passion and excitement for the nurturing and development of young men by providing information that is useful, transformational, and timeless.

Ultimately, this book is a tool that helps you guide young men to lead exceptional lives—and become the exceptional men our communities need. In this book, you’ll learn the blueprint for helping boys develop into men.

Unlock the Exceptional is a nonfiction book that speaks to leaders of young men—guardians, mentors, or parents—who are looking for empowering principles through which they can grow young men into the future leaders our communities so desperately need.

The Book In Three Parts

We begin with discussing the value of giving people a second chance in life. This may well be the place where these young men discover their gift. We explore the key principles and life-changing concepts that are essential for unlocking what is exceptional about any individual.

From here we dive into how to go from being affected by our circumstance to being effective in our circumstances. This is true growth. I share inspiring stories that show how leadership and intentional growth go hand in hand as a partnership.

This brings us to the final part of the book: the hard questions that we are unwilling to face. These are the questions we need to answer to become the best version of ourselves; to create our own recipe for success. We develop a strategy for becoming inspiring guides for young men. A plan to achieve our vision of young men becoming strong leaders.
